discover the driftless
This Driftless Area covers approximately 24,000 square miles of southeastern Minnesota, southwestern Wisconsin, northeast Iowa, and a small part of northwestern Illinois. This intensely unique, fertile, and rugged region is a geological and natural wonderland. It’s also a special place for me personally, as the backdrop of my youth and land of 10,000 memories. I grew up exploring the rolling pastures, hardwood forests, limestone bluffs, and spring fed trout streams, but, like many farm kids, even after these rich rural experiences, I ran off to the city.
I’ve since been drawn back with a desire to preserve the history and stories of the place, and to help travelers like you enjoy the vast and peaceful playground that is the Driftlesss. Similar to the North Shore, it’s an immensely special place to locals, and one that few outsiders know about. It’s an area of deeply carved hills, valleys, plants, and species that escaped glaciation and the last glacial period. The agricultural bounty of the region is thoroughly nourishing and delicious, and we’ll bring you to the best markets, farms, shoppes, and restaurants - to feed your tummy and your wanderlust.
